My theory is that like autism, psychology is trying to subcategorize the heck out of it. My theory is that there aren’t actually 3 types, but one type, and that those of us with adhd are both hyper and inattentive, we just all show it in various degrees, like the traits of autism. This is because there are those that are “obviously” hyper and run around/antsy/can’t sit still. But there are other signs such as fidgeting, tapping/shaking body parts (tapping pens, shaking leg, etc), and being super chatty/talkative. We are all also inattentive in some way. I mean, that’s the “main” part of adhd.
This theory comes not only from personal experience, but lots of observation. I also work with a lot of kids that are adhd at the high school. That’s my job, to help modify their work and help them pass classes. But I’ve worked with kids from PreK-12, as well as adults.
