For months there has been a National (US) shortage on all ADHD meds, especially stimulants. This is not good. The media has played it up, per usual, that it affects children and parents the most because their children are no longer zombies and mummy is going through more wine than usual.
Adults have ADHD too. We are your teachers, your doctors, your cashiers, your airline pilots, whatever the job may be, we are there. We use medication to function in our daily lives.
My ADHD meds help me stay on task, process information, and regulate my emotions. They help me teach, take my 2 masters classes, drive safely, be socially acceptable (to a degree), etc. I cannot do my life without them. Or I could, but I would be fired, fail out of my classes, and become very depressed by all this and well…yeah, that too maybe.
So when the pharmacy never filled my ADHD meds I called to see if they were out-out. Yup. I called another pharmacy in my area. They were out too. I contacted my dr and let them know that I would be rationing what little I had left. Everyone was out. The national shortage had hit me. I then contacted my professors and let them know I would do the best I could, but it would be a very hard several weeks until I got back on my meds.
Not 5 seconds after sending those emails did I then get notice from my dr that they found some meds for me, could fill my prescriptions, and I was good for another 30 days. *smacks hand on forehead* I’m extatic! But now I have to email my professors back in a bit of a walk of shame haha.
But what happens in another 30 days when I need to refill again? Will I be scrambling again? The pharmaceutical companies need to get their sh*t together. When a 1/4 of the population cannot function because they can’t get meds? That is a HUGE problem!!
